A new anti-epidemic poster campaign is to be distributed in hospitals across England to help prevent people becoming infected with the coronavirus, the Ministry of Health said.

The posters will be distributed by a team of nurses and medical students at three Royal College of Nursing (RCN) hospitals.

The campaign, which is being led by the Royal College’s Clinical Infectious Diseases and Healthcare Workers’ Advisory Committee (CIDWAC) , will be rolled out in a bid to improve the safety of hospital staff, the RCN said.

It is part of a wider campaign called Antiseptic Awareness Week which aims to highlight how the spread of the virus has affected healthcare workers.

The RCN is in charge of public health at the RCNP, which was set up in 2010 by the NHS to improve access to care for those who have contracted the virus.

“We know there is a huge opportunity to improve safety and to prevent the spread and transmission of this pandemic,” RCN chair Professor Helen Williams said.

“Our focus is on making sure we do that by introducing the latest techniques and strategies to protect the health and wellbeing of patients, staff and the public.”

These posters will help us do just that.

“Dr Williams said she was proud of the work of the RCNs team.”

I am pleased to be able to say that our poster campaign will be available to all Royal College nurses and clinical nurses in our hospitals in a way that will ensure that nurses and clinicians will be able use the latest tools to help us to minimise the spread,” she said.

Dr Williams, who has worked at the Royal Colleges’ Royal College Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, said the posters will target people who have not yet had contact with an infected person and those who are close to a sick person.

She said people who were concerned about becoming infected should seek advice from their GP, or contact a health worker.”

This poster campaign and the other initiatives are part of the wider effort to ensure that we can make the most of the great opportunities that this pandemics presents for nurses and healthcare workers to support their patients,” she added.”

It’s important that nurses are aware of the potential for infections in the workplace, so they are aware what to do if they have symptoms, or if they do have symptoms they should contact their GP or a healthcare worker.

“The posters are designed to help make that more easy.”
